Lion investigating what disturbed him on this beautiful morning. Male lions rarely hunt. They wait for the females to bring them their meals.
9 Day Safari
Itinerary
Day 1 - Arrive in Kenya
Upon arrival into Nairobi, you will be met and transferred to your hotel for an overnight.
Day 2 & 3- On safari in Samburu
Your adventure begins with a drive north to Samburu. In the shadow of Mount Kenya, the national parks and extensive ranch and communal lands of the Samburu Heartland support some of Africa’s most impressive wildlife and wild lands. Northern specialty species like the reticulated giraffe and the Grevy’s zebra roam the acacia grassland where lions and wild dogs hunt their prey. While on your morning and afternoon game drives you can also expect to find elephant, oryx, Somali Ostrich, hippo, crocodile, gerenuk, buffalo, leopard, cheetah and hyena. Overnight at camp / lodge / hotel. All meals included.
Day 4- Viewing wildlife in the Aberdares
Journey on to the Aberdares, the third highest range of mountains in Kenya, reaching a summit of just over 4000m. This massive range is well known for its thick salient forests, and their prolific game. The forest is a hidden world of wildlife. The thick vegetation provides perfect cover for countless species. Very large herds of elephant and buffalo move almost silently through the undergrowth, while overhead noisome birds and colobus monkeys dominate the canopy. Overnight at camp / lodge / hotel. All meals included.
Day 5- Persuing the elusive leopord in Lake Nakuru
As your journey turns back to the south you stop for some excitement in Lake Nakuru. Nakuru provides the visitor with one of Kenya’s best known images. Thousands of flamingo, joined into a massive flock, fringe the shores of this soda lake. A pulsing pink swathe of life that carpets the water, the flamingo are a breathtaking sight. But Nakuru offers more than just flamingos. The National Park is an important sanctuary for rhino and both black and white rhino are found here, often seen resting under acacias by the lake shore. The park also abounds with game. There are huge herds of waterbuck, zebra, buffalo, the endangered Rothschild giraffe and more. This is one of your best chances of seeing leopard in Kenya, and there are several large prides of lion. Overnight at camp / lodge / hotel. All meals included.
Day 6 & 7 - On safari in the Maasai Mara
And the adventure continues with a drive into Maasai land. Probably the most famous and most visited reserve in Kenya, the Mara offers breathtaking views (seen in the film ‘Out of Africa’, much of which was filmed here) and an extraordinary density of animals including the “Big Five” (lion, leopard, rhino, water buffalo, and elephant). The annual migration of wildebeest, zebra and gazelle from the plains of the Serengeti to the Mara’s lush grassland is a sight worth beholding. While it is these herd animals that migrate, they are followed by such predators as lion, leopard, cheetah, and hyena and circled by vultures. Game viewing is excellent year round and includes: elephant, black rhino, buffalo, plains zebra, roan antelope in small numbers, white-bearded gnu, oribi, warthog, Thomson's and Grant's gazelle, hartebeest and the big cats; the rivers are home to hippo and crocodiles. The Mara boasts the largest population of lion in the country, so have your cameras ready. Overnight at camp / lodge / hotel. All meals included.
Day 8 & 9 - Exploring Nairobi
Leaving the great plains of the Mara behind you journey back to Kenya's capital city. Nairobi has risen in a single century from a brackish uninhabited swampland to a thriving modern capital. When railway construction workers reached this area in 1899, they set up a basic camp and supply depot, simply called ‘Mile 327’. The local Maasai called this highland swamp Ewaso Nai’beri – the place of cold water. The camp became a rustic village, and then a shanty town, which by 1907 was the capital of all of British East Africa. It was soon an important center for the colony and a mecca for adventurers, hunters and travelers from all over the world.
Modern Nairobi is still the safari capital of Africa, but the modern world has quickly caught up with the city. A frontier town no more, Nairobi has become one of Africa’s largest, and most interesting cities. Upon your return to the city you will check in to your hotel for a one night stay. This time is yours to do with as you please. Lunch is included on day 8 and breakfast is included on both days.
