11 Day Safari
Itinerary
Day 1 - Arrive in Kenya
Upon arrival into Nairobi, you will be met and transferred to your hotel for an overnight.
Day 2 & 3- On safari in Samburu
Your adventure begins with a drive north to Samburu. In the shadow of Mount Kenya, the national parks and extensive ranch and communal lands of the Samburu Heartland support some of Africa’s most impressive wildlife and wild lands. Northern specialty species like the reticulated giraffe and the Grevy’s zebra roam the acacia grassland where lions and wild dogs hunt their prey. While on your morning and afternoon game drives you can also expect to find elephant, oryx, Somali Ostrich, hippo, crocodile, gerenuk, buffalo, leopard, cheetah and hyena. Overnight at camp / lodge / hotel. All meals included.
Day 4- Viewing wildlife in the Aberdares
Journey on to the Aberdares, the third highest range of mountains in Kenya, reaching a summit of just over 4000m. This massive range is well known for its thick salient forests, and their prolific game. The forest is a hidden world of wildlife. The thick vegetation provides perfect cover for countless species. Very large herds of elephant and buffalo move almost silently through the undergrowth, while overhead noisome birds and colobus monkeys dominate the canopy. Overnight at camp / lodge / hotel. All meals included.
Day 5- Persuing the elusive leopord in Lake Nakuru
As your journey turns back to the south you stop for some excitement in Lake Nakuru. Nakuru provides the visitor with one of Kenya’s best known images. Thousands of flamingo, joined into a massive flock, fringe the shores of this soda lake. A pulsing pink swathe of life that carpets the water, the flamingo are a breathtaking sight. But Nakuru offers more than just flamingos. The National Park is an important sanctuary for rhino and both black and white rhino are found here, often seen resting under acacias by the lake shore. The park also abounds with game. There are huge herds of waterbuck, zebra, buffalo, the endangered Rothschild giraffe and more. This is one of your best chances of seeing leopard in Kenya, and there are several large prides of lion. Overnight at camp / lodge / hotel. All meals included.
Day 6 & 7 - On safari in the Maasai Mara
And the adventure continues with a drive into Maasai land. Probably the most famous and most visited reserve in Kenya, the Mara offers breathtaking views (seen in the film ‘Out of Africa’, much of which was filmed here) and an extraordinary density of animals including the “Big Five” (lion, leopard, rhino, water buffalo, and elephant). The annual migration of wildebeest, zebra and gazelle from the plains of the Serengeti to the Mara’s lush grassland is a sight worth beholding. While it is these herd animals that migrate, they are followed by such predators as lion, leopard, cheetah, and hyena and circled by vultures. Game viewing is excellent year round and includes: elephant, black rhino, buffalo, plains zebra, roan antelope in small numbers, white-bearded gnu, oribi, warthog, Thomson's and Grant's gazelle, hartebeest and the big cats; the rivers are home to hippo and crocodiles. The Mara boasts the largest population of lion in the country, so have your cameras ready. Overnight at camp / lodge / hotel. All meals included.
Day 8 - Onward to the Maasai Village
Another Land, in conjunction with several villages and artisans in Uganda Tanzania, and Kenya provides the highest quality cultural programs available in East Africa. All programs are authentic and participatory. The programs not only benefit the traveler by giving them an amazing cultural experience so few have access to, but also benefit the communities economically, socially and emotionally.
At some time en route to the village, each group will go shopping to bring specific guests gifts for the village. Culturally, visitors in Maasai culture bring tobacco, snuff and sugar to give to the women and male elders. Cost of the gifts are approximately $10.
After breakfast, you will journey towards the town of Narok with a packed lunch en route. This road is one of the worst roads in Kenya, so be ready for the adventure we call Disco Roads (dancing in your seat from the bumps). Upon arrival, you will be given a brief cultural orientation on Maasai culture and expected code of conduct. You will then be driven to the Maasai village. Upon arrival, you will be met by MANY Maasai, such as the elders, women and warriors. Our friends will warmly introduce you to the village and its people. Maasai warriors will guard you while you camp overnight (there is not a threat of theft, it is just their way of taking care of you). Camps consist of full standup tents with proper beds, showers and toilet facilities, tables, chairs, camp hands, waiters, mess tent, cooks, etc and will be set up prior to the clients' arrival. Drinks will be available for purchase at the camp. All meals included.
Day 9 & 10 - Discover by Doing! the Maasai way
Over the next few days, your group will learn about Maasai culture from the Maasai. The women of the village will teach you how to make their beaded jewelry. You’ll join the medicine man to collect various roots, leaves and
fruit that are used to treat the villagers and their livestock.
You’ll join the young warriors in a walking safari of the valley where a meandering river is often frequented by wildlife such as zebra, hippos and gazelle. Also on the walk, you’ll explore a cave called “The House of God” that had bizarre geological formations inside. Strewn along the valley are many fossils, so keep your eyes open for the next archeological find. In the evening you’ll get traditional Maasai names befitting of each of your personalities. Overnights in the camp. All meals included.
Day 11 - Village farewell and return to Nairobi
This morning, you’ll say farewell to your hosts and new friends in the village. After breakfast, you’ll journey back to Nairobi where day rooms can be arranged for your convenience. The afternoon is free for you to explore a little of Nairobi, catch up on some shopping or take a nap in the hotel gardens. While you are responsible for your own lunches, you will stop for dinner at the Carnivore Restaurant en route to the airport for your flights home. Breakfast and Dinner.
