7 day Safari

Itinerary

Day 1 - Arrive in Tanzania

Arrive in Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania in the late evening. You will be met by your driver guide and taken to your hotel for an overnight stay.

Day 2 - Fly to the Selous

After an early breakfast, return to the airstrip for your flight to the Selous Game Reserve. Embracing 54,000 square kilometers of southwestern Tanzania, it is the largest protected wilderness reserve on the continent, three times larger than the Serengeti and twice the size of Belgium.

Named after the legendary 19th century explorer and hunter Frederick Courtenay Selous, the reserve was founded by the German colonial administration in 1905. It was later expanded to include traditional elephant migration routes and accommodate the vast herds of buffalo that roam this remote, untouched corner of Africa.

An afternoon game drive in open four-wheeled drive vehicles, specially adapted for close-up game viewing, makes an exhilarating foray into the surrounding bush. Your expert guide will happily explain everything from unusual animal behavior to rare and elusive species of birds and even the life cycle of termites. Overnight at chosen accommodation. All meals included.

Day 3 - Boat Safari on the Rufiji River

A morning game drive is followed by an afternoon on the Rufiji River. Its many tributaries, channels and lagoons, offer travelers an opportunity to obtain close-up photographs and views of the many hippos wallowing in the water and the large crocodiles lurking on the banks. The wealth of the Selous Reserve's vivid bird life is best seen from the boat.

Return to your camp for dinner and an evening at leisure. Overnight at chosen accommodation. All meals included.

Day 4 & 5 - Walking Safari and ‘Bush’ Camp

An afternoon game drive from your camp brings you to the ‘bush’ camp that will be your home for the next two days as you explore the surrounding terrain. A walking safari in Africa allows you to become an active participant, encouraging you to develop and utilize all of your senses. An experienced guide escorts you on your adventure, sharing wisdom and insight along the way. The walk is at a slow, leisurely pace as one takes in the flora and fauna along the way. Overnight at the bush camp. All meals included.

Day 6 - Return to base camp

After a morning hike, return to your base camp for the evening at your leisure. Overnight at chosen accommodation. All meals included.

Day 7 - Return to Dar-es-Salaam

After breakfast you’ll be transferred to the airstrip for your flight to Dar es Salaam. Day rooms and excursions in Dar es Salaam are provided on request if needed before your international flight.
