Uganda is commonly referred to as the Pearl of Africa; however, the country could be aptly addressed by so many different names. based on its world renowned gorilla trekking, the source of the world's longest river, or its fascinating culture.
Despite Uganda's dark past, the people of Uganda are moving forward toward an optimistic future and enjoying a growing economy, a new foundation of peace, and resurgence in traditional culture. Like Tanzania, Uganda has many tribes: the Bagishu, Ankole, Basoga, Karamojongs, and Chwezi to name a few.
Another Land Expeditions feature many of these groups, plus a special in-depth focus on the wonderfully musical traditions of the Baganda - the largest tribe in Uganda.
Uganda is well known as the home of the mountain gorilla, the rarest of all gorillas. These quiet, but massive, creatures live in a dense rainforest of undergrowth, orchids, vines and bamboo. Also, high in Uganda's trees live chimpanzees, colobus monkeys, birds and leopards. Besides the tropical wildlife, Uganda also has plains and forests home to plenty of lions, elephants, hippos, topi, buffalo, and aardvark.
